Harlequin Sheep are a really cute breed of sheep with very unique characteristics. These sheep are the only wool breed that are spotted and polled and can potentially have blue eyes. Their stature is small to medium and are colored with distinct patterns of black and white. The lambs have the appearance of a tiny Holstein calf! The disposition of Harlequins is naturally gentle and docile. They are natured much like an Olde English Southdown Babydoll. Harlequin Sheep are capable of carrying twins; they are a hardy breed of sheep, especially with lambing. They are one of the few breeds that were developed in America. Currently, the Harlequin Sheep Registry is working towards having this breed recognized by the American Livestock Conservatory. According to the Rare Breeds Journal ( No. 123, 2010), “There will be just a handful of purebred Harlequins available this year so act fast!”
