Miniature Donkeys are hard to beat when it comes to having a pet! One of the most desirable characteristics of a mini donkeys are their loving personalities. Because of their easy going personalities, donkeys make wonderful pets for children, special needs populations, and the elderly. Donkeys are very social and love to be handled, petted, brushed, and loved on. They form close attachments with their owners and to other donkeys. An important fact regarding this dear species is that donkeys are herd animals. This means that a donkey will not thrive all alone—one lone donkey makes for a very lonely donkey. A companion is a must for a donkey!

With proper care, a donkey’s lifespan ranges from 25-45 years! This means that a donkey can be a pet for many years longer than domestic pets such as dogs or cats. Donkeys are very healthy animals. They require the same yearly vaccinations as horses and require at least 3-4 de-wormings annually. They also need regular hoof trimmings.
